The Fairphone 3 is available from May 6 with a new OS. Farewell Android for this model which wants to respect the environment and the privacy of its users.
This new model from the Dutch firm of the same name claims to be respectful of the environment, privacy and working conditions of the entire production chain necessary for its manufacture. And, it goes to the end of its ethical approach by proposing to no longer use Android as a mobile operating service.
A SMARTPHONE THAT RESPECTS THE ENVIRONMENT AND IS EASY TO REPAIR
It is now difficult to be ostrich and not see that a smartphone contains many rare metals. These are often extracted in deplorable environmental and social conditions. Likewise, our devices are made up of polluting and not very renewable components. Finally, current smartphones are difficult to repair. How many devices do they quickly become unusable because complex to repair or with spare parts impossible to obtain? It is from this observation that Fairphone was created.
With this new model, called simply Fairphone 3, we find everything that makes the particularity of this mobile brand. Recycled and fair trade materials, modular and repairable design, replaceable and long-lasting battery, the Fairphone does everything to ensure that its environmental and social footprint is as positive as possible. Whether it is the choice of suppliers or the choice of materials for its design, everything is thought out to limit its impact on our planet. It is also the only smartphone in the world to receive the maximum iFixit repairability rating of 10 out of 10.
But, with this new model, Fairphone goes further by offering the possibility of getting rid of Google as well. Don’t panic, your device won’t be empty! It works with the operating system of / e / OS, a 100% open-source version of Android. The goal is not to have to undergo Google and Android tracking. On the application side, most of the services usually offered with Android have alternatives on the OS / e /, while protecting your personal data.
The Fairphone 3 is priced at 450 € for its version with / e / OS . But, if skipping Android seems too difficult, you can also order the version with the OS from Google. In all cases, the technical characteristics are rather those found for a device at 200 €. And the design, without being horrible, is not very modern. But, these are concessions to be accepted in order to acquire a device that has privileged ethical and repairability aspects over performance and appearance.
