The Nights of the Stars take place on August 6, 7, and 8, 2021. But you can observe the sky all summer long, with a smartphone and applications.
Good news, the weather seems perfect for stargazing with balmy nights and clear skies over a large part of the country. We must therefore not miss the opportunity to observe the stars and the celestial vault. This month of August is also the right season to enjoy the shooting stars show which will be there for another two good weeks.
Applications allow you to better locate you in the sky, to find the most famous stars, constellations and planets. You no longer need to be an expert in astronomy to have a good time, always with the hope of seeing a shooting star!
Sky Map is a must-have application. It recants in its free version more than 5,000 stars and 88 constellations in augmented reality. It also calculates – in real-time – the current location of all the stars and planets visible from Earth and shows them to you, even in broad daylight.
STAR WALK 2
Star Walk 2 is a great alternative to Sky Map, with 3D models of celestial bodies and detailed cards for each star and planet.
STAR WALK KIDS
Star Walk Kids is an application that targets children with a very nice comic book atmosphere. A real educational tool, the application allows the youngest to observe the sky and discover the planets but also 49 constellations and even to know where the International Space Station is located.
The application is paid but it is really worth it for a fun experience. The content is fully translated into French.
SOLAR WALK 2
Solar Walk 2 is a beautiful interactive solar system encyclopedia. It brings planetary atmospheres, solar flares, northern lights and asteroid belts to life with stunning visual effects. A version of the application is also available in virtual reality with Oculus.
What if, instead of observing space, you go? Spaceflight Simulator lets you launch a rocket and relive space history. Both complete and fun, it is a perfect application for a virtual escape.
